The attached document(s) has been prepared for our congregational meeting durring the morning service on June 30th. See document links below.

The document requires congregational approval before it is submitted to the Regional Council’s Pastoral Relations Committee who consider our request to create a Congregational Designated Ministry Position,*  providing leadership for our Communication and Neighbourhood Engagement Ministry.

The documents consists of 3 main parts:

a “Living Faith Story” which expresses the purpose of our congregation at this time, in this place.  Why are we here? What are we sensing God is calling us to be about?

a position description for our proposed new staff position, Leader of Communication and Neighbourhood Engagement Ministry. It is in light of the progress we have made through dedicating staff time to our priority of deepening our connections in the neighbourhood that this position is being proposed, turning the 2 year contract (pilot project) undertaken by Gordon Miller to an “on-going”staff position.

a Pastoral Relations Community of Faith Ministry Profile which includes:
a financial viability review
the position description of the Ordained Minister

Thank you for giving this document your attention in advance of our meeting on June 30th.

Cheryl Caldwell, Chair
for the James Bay United Church Board

*A Congregational Designated Ministry is a congregation based ministry that addresses a specific area of need within a community of faith.  A Congregational Designated Minister is appointed (for a specified period of time) by and accountable to the governing body of the congregation, where there is already a member of the order of ministry serving the congregation.  (By contrast, a member of the Order of Ministry may be called to any number of congregations in the United Church, for an open ended period. The scope of responsibility is much wider, and accountability is to the Board and the Regional Council of the United Church of Canada.)
